Getting In Touch With Nature

The last week has been great! We went on three interesting excursions. Last Friday we took the kids to the local aboriginal cultural centre. The local aboriginal people here in Khanty-Mansiysk are the Khanty. The centre is akin to an outdoor museum where visitors are able to see Khanty housing, cooking areas, spiritual areas, and even some really cool traps! A guide toured us around the facility where we learned about their history and customs. We even got the chance to do some berry picking in the forest. It was interesting to see the similarities between the aboriginal culture here and back on Vancouver Island.

The following Sunday we decided to take a nice break and do something relaxing and laid back, so we took the kids to a movie theatre to watch the Russian version of "Piglet's Big Movie". From the abundance of laughter and giggling present in the theatre, it was clear to us that our group was thorougly enjoying themselves.

This past Monday we had the pleasure of going to the local wildlife centre. The centre staff prepared a very interactive demonstration where our kids were able to hold and pet some of the animals kept on site. There were rabbits, hedgehogs, iguanas, cows, lambs, parrakeets, and even a raven!

Overall I would say this was a great week and we will keep you updated on our last few excursions before the project comes to an end.
